Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is a safety feature that warns the driver if they start to drift out of a detected lane without turn signals. This feature is part of Honda Sensing®, so it is standard on most new Honda vehicles. That said, when you get behind a Honda car with LDW, you can confidently commute around South Euclid. Find out how LDW works below with Spitzer Honda Cleveland.
Now that you know what this system is, you might be wondering, “How does LDW work?” LDW works by using a windshield camera to visually detect lane lines. With lane lines detected, the system will determine when the driver is drifting out of a lane without using their turn indicators. In that case, LDW will alert the driver with an icon in the instrument panel and an audible warning.
LDW is part of the Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), and these two systems use the windshield-mounted camera. RDM uses the camera to identify the side of the road– including Botts’ Dots, cat’s-eye markers, and painted lane lines– and alert the driver when they are drifting over detected lane markings. This system can use the electric power steering system (EPS) to guide the car back into its detected lane or to slow its departure from the roadway altogether.
While LDW and RDM will warn you when you’re unintentionally drifting to another lane or over detected lane markings, you will have several other Honda Sensing® features to guide you when you’re out and about in Lyndhurst and Cleveland Heights. Other systems include:
